Barns are big, old, and usually a long way from anywhere, and most painters quote them like a house and then discover the access problem on day one. The carpentry comes first. Loose and rotten boards get fixed or replaced before any finish goes on, because paint over a failing board just hides it for a season. Then it is a question of reach: we haul lifts in where the ground will take them, and where it will not, the job gets planned around what will. The Steiger Family Heritage Farm at Colfax is the one we point to. Two large barns, a three bedroom house and several outbuildings, every one over a hundred years old. Two Genie lifts and a water tank had to be hauled to the site before work started. Sherwin-Williams ran large colour drawdowns and shipped them to the owners so they could see the real paint and stain at size before committing. The crew hand-painted the worn barn hardware so it stood out instead of disappearing under a coat. Nobody asked for that.

Reviews

Take a look at what your neighbors are saying about us.
  • We’ve worked with Mike and the crew at Chewelah Painting quite a bit over the years, and they’re a solid outfit. They know their trade, show up, work hard, and take pride in what they put their name on. Being in the trades and seeing so many others, we know good work when we see it, and these guys do good work. Mike is pretty particular about the finished product, and he doesn’t call it done until it’s done right. That says a lot in this industry. We’ve always had a good experience working alongside Chewelah Painting and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
